managing the testing process. |
In many companies, we had to set up the testing department from scratch, create a QA process, train the testing staff and introduce automated testing.
Much of our work has been in large companies, where we have managed the testing of many mission critical applications, including mainframe, client server and web-based systems.
How did we get here
In our early days, using the traditional approach to automation, we set-up automated testing efforts and, provided vendor certified training to internal staff. We would then discover, six months later, that the effort had been abandoned, or only a small portion of what we had constructed was being used. This forced us to question what we were doing and how. None of us liked the thought that we had of having done a great deal of work, and then our efforts would were not be fully utilized and or appreciated.
It became apparent that the traditional approaches and tools were not meeting the needs of our customers. We needed to change. We all wanted to do work, which truly made a difference to people, so we could return home with a real sense of accomplishment.
This was the motivation in coming up with an approach, which not only works and lasts but in fact moves testing to a new level. From the feedback we have received, we have accomplished this. And we are not finished yet... We are constantly re-evaluating and improving the Scenario Tester solution.
Getting the user interface right
One recurring problem we found in many companies is was that the QA personnel were good testers, but had little desire to become developers. They where often recruited from the business side. Our solution uses a combination of a new approach and a software package called Scenario Tester, both designed to empower testers.
Scenario Tester features were added by watching numerous testers over three years, using our approach. We very much wanted to enhance people's' ability to do their job by having our software meet their needs. We added features, that people wanted and needed.
Our philosophy is to take complicated tasks and simplify them, so people can efficiently get their job done with increased productivity.
We also want people to enjoy using our approach. We spend a significant amount of time perfecting the user interface, making it as simple as possible. We hope that you will actually enjoy using the Scenario Tester approach.
